SHERATON GATEWAY LOS ANGELES HOTEL (4)

Back in Sheraton LAX. Today's room is facing RWY 24R approach. So I can enjoy viewing some landing birds such as...

EVA's 773 from Taipei Taoyuan...

...and Iberia's A332 from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas.

FROM TOKYO LIGHTS TO MALIBU MORNING

Image
Another DL6 ride to LAX. Today's bird is N822NW, the first 242-ton MTOW (Maximum Take-Off Weight) version of A330-300 for Delta.

RWY 34R departure is fabulous in the evening with a Tokyo Tower view.

My home is somewhere in the lights.

About 9 hours later. Maribu morning. Delta A330-300 HND-LAX. The 752nd flight in my lifetime.

WORK LAB YATSUGATAKE AND E353

Image
Checked out Work Lab Yatsugatake located in front of JR Chino Station. This shared office space was conceived by Mr. Toshio Yabe, my ex-client at Mori Building and an advocate for the dual residence lifestyle in Yatsugatake highland area and Tokyo.

Then I took the E353 series train, JR East's brand-new EMU for the limited express services on the Chuo Main Line, to travel back to Shinjuku.

The train cars are state-of-art, but the railroad tracks of the Chuo Main Line are old and winding. I felt like the train was overspeeding.

THE ORCHARD

Image
Visited Grapple Takada's apple orchard in Inadani Valley run by my friend Takada-kun. What an amazing workplace he has.

We moved to Komagane city and enjoyed a pork-cutlet-dipped-in-worcester-sauce-donburi (over rice) lunch on the terrace of a restaurant overlooking grand Kiso Mountains a.k.a. Japan's Central Alps. They say this cutlet menu is a local specialty.

INADANI GRAND CHEF DINNER

Image
This is the reason why I came to Inadani Valley. I joined Indani Grand Chef dinner organized by the team that consists of local chefs and farmers, and enjoyed their fabulous dinner course using locally sourced vegetables, fruits, and eggs. The dishes were not just creative and delicious, but also quite Instagrammable.

And this guy, Takada-kun, is one of the organizers. He is my friend from university days and old bandmate who was playing the bass guitar. Takada-kun left Tokyo where he worked for a big company as an employee and moved to Inadani Valley to start his apple/grape orchard with his family. It was so great to see the products he painstakingly nurtured have transformed into beautiful dishes and I could actually savored them with him in the valley he loves.

INA PRINCE HOTEL

Image
Visiting Inadani area in Nagano Prefecture for the first time and this is the hotel I chose. They call it Prince Hotel but it has nothing to do with Prince Hotels and belongs to a completely different hotel group whose name sounds like a famous advertising agency. I guess it's like Osaka Teikoku (Imperial) Hotel that has nothing to do with Imperial Hotels.

I asked for a larger room and they gave me the "Bride's Room". Is a groom not allowed here?
Is this a dressing table for a bride?

The room was okay. But the problem was that the hotel didn't have coffee at all in the morning—even a canned coffee. So I had to run to a nearby convenience store. If you happen to run a hotel, you need to have coffee before putting up some chandeliers in the lobby.

THE 9 O'CLOCK AZUSA

Image
Some people might remember an old Japanese pop song about the Azusa limited express train that departs at 8 o'clock. This morning, I take the 9 o'clock Azusa operated by the E257 series EMU from Shinjuku Station to go to Ina in the southern part of Nagano Prefecture.

Enjoying the views of the Yatsugatake Mountains through train window. On an outbound Azusa, you had better sit on the right side of the train in the direction of travel.

FAST TRAIN HOME

Image
Going home from Mishima Station on a Kodama bullet train which seems to have hit a bird or wild animal. Again, Kodama is the best way to access Hakone and Izu area.

A glimpse of Izu Oshima island, as always.

PRINCE, LAKE, AND MOUNT FUJI

Image
Had a coffee at the Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko hotel, took a walk along the lakeshore, enjoyed the lights over the water, and Mt. Fuji in the distance. I still don't think the pirate ship fits Lake Ashi and its surroundings well.

HAKONE KOMAGATAKE ROPEWAY PART2

Hakone Brutalist. As if they were from a sci-fi TV show I watched when I was a kid.
