My junior high, high-school, and
university (freshman and sophomore years) were on Tokyu Toyoko Line and that made Yokohama an afterschool playground for me and my school buddies. Back then Minato Mirai area was not fully developed, so the places like
Hotel New Grand (before the tower was added), China Town (before becoming too touristy), and this restaurant opened in 1963 were the icons of Yokohama for us. Restaurant Scandia located at
the most Yokohama-esque street corner has a very Yokohama-esque setting with a bit over-the-top interior. And it offers my most favorite cuisines along with Chinese—Scandinavian. No place in Tokyo has this atmosphere.
中学も高校も
大学（最初の2年間）も東急東横線沿いにあったので、授業が終わると横浜が学校の友だちとの遊び場になった。当時はまだみなとみらい地区の完成前。だから僕たちにとって横浜のシンボルといえば、タワーが足される前の
ホテルニューグランドであり、過度に観光化される前の中華街であり、1963年にオープンしたこのレストランだった。
最も横浜らしい交差点に店を構えるここスカンディヤはちょっと過剰なインテリアが印象的で、実に横浜らしい雰囲気を持っている。そして中国料理とともに僕が最も好きな料理、北欧料理を楽しめる。こんな空気感の店は、東京ではまず見つからない。
