MITA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

This elementary school in my neighborhood that has more than 130-year-old history is my designated voting station for Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election. It's interesting to see its name has different Chinese character from the name of location, even though they both have the same pronunciation "mita." "Mita" means rice paddy for imperial family, so their Chinese character is closer to the original meaning. National Lower House election is also getting near.
近所にある130年以上の歴史を持つこの小学校は、僕のエリアの都議選投票所。同じ「みた」なのに、地名とは違う漢字を使っているのが面白い。そもそも「みた」とは天皇家のための田んぼを意味するので、この漢字のほうがオリジナルの意味に近い。衆院選も、もうすぐ。
