Before checking-in, I had a big question mark in my head about bringing a Kahala to Japan, knowing it was done by a Japanese resort developer with little experience in international market. However, once I got to the entrance, I realized I needed to change my view about the hotel. I was delightfully surprised at hotel staff's attentiveness and dedication. And the sun-filled guest room, swimming pool, and lounge are awesome. On top of that, Mr Kasch, hotel's GM who used to work for global brands including InterContinental, Marriott, Accor, and Rotana in and out of Japan, offered us warm hospitality with a personal touch during the stay. He told me he recruited some of the team members from several top hotel brands. I witnessed every team member was working tirelessly to strive for what Kahala stands for. I can imagine it's not an easy thing to do when the hotel is still in the opening period and the whole operation can be unstable, especially under these COVID conditions. What you can experience here is a different kind of Kahala but it definitely raised the bar for the hotel business in Yokohama. And that's a good news for the city which had been waiting for the opening of a true high-end hotel for a long time.
