Checked into Regent Porto Montenegro near Tivat and got a nice room overlooking  Porto Montenegro marina with a spacious balcony. Taiwan-based Regent Hotels, which was co-founded by Aman 's founder Mr. Adrian Zecha, has only two properties in Europe and interestingly one of them is this hotel in Montenegro. When it comes to Regent, I remember the one in Hong Kong with a magnificent night view which was later renamed to InterContinental. But this hotel has a completely different character as a modern take on an European grand hotel. ティヴァト の近くにあるリージェント・ポルトモンテネグロにチェックイン。 ポルトモンテネグロ のマリーナを見下ろす、大きめのバルコニーがついたなかなか良い部屋をくれた。 アマン のファウンダーとして知られるエイドリアン・ゼッカ氏が共同創設者になっている台湾ベースのリージェントホテルズはヨーロッパにホテルを2つだけ持っているが、面白いことにその1つがこのモンテネグロのプロパティ。リージェントというと、のちにインターコンチネンタルに改名した、夜景が見事な ホンコンのホテル を思い出す。でもここはヨーロッパのグランドホテルのモダンバージョンで、キャラクターがまったく違う。

I ran through the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina... ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ南部を駆け抜けて・・・ ...and crossed the border again at a small check point. 小さなチェックポイントで再び 国境を越える 。 I'm back in Montenegro . モンテネグロ に帰ってきた。 Heading for Tivat viewing  Our Lady of the Rocks . 「岩礁の聖母」 を横目に、 ティヴァト へ向かう。

As soon as I posted a photo of Stari Most onto Instagram, my US-based colleague gave me a message saying that I should go to this place near Mostar–Blagaj Tekke. Here, a Muslim dervish house stands next to a cavern that is the source of the Buna river. They say these facilities were founded in the 16th century during Ottoman Bosnia era and today people are still praising God at this holy site. It was a tranquil place with a mystic feel and walking along the river was quite refreshing. Thank you, Instagram . スタリ・モスト の写真をインスタグラムにアップした途端、USベースの同僚がこの場所へ行くように薦めてくれた。ここは、ブラガイ・テケ。ブナ川の水源である洞窟の隣りにムスリムの修道院が建っている。最初に建物が作られたのは、ボスニアがオスマン帝国に属していた16世紀の頃らしい。そして今でも神を讃える聖地であり続けている。静かで、神秘的で、川沿いの散歩はとても気持ちが良かった。サンキュー、 インスタグラム 。

This building standing at the intersection in downtown Mostar was supposed to become a bank. But the war broke out and it was converted to an instrument to kill people. Now people call it Sniper Tower. モスタルのダウンタウンの交差点に建つこのビルは、もともと銀行になるはずだった。でも戦争が始まり、人を殺すための装置に生まれ変わった。今ではスナイパータワーと呼ばれている。

When I started my career as a copywriter at Dentsu, this city was on the frontline of the war. 僕が電通でコピーライターとしてのキャリアを始めた頃、この街は戦争の最前線だった。

Enjoyed a kebab sandwich and Bosnian coffee while wandering through the dusty streets. 行き先を決めずに埃っぽい道を歩き回る。その途中でケバブサンド。そしてボスニアンコーヒー。

Adhan in the air. A touch of Eastern Europe. An atmosphere of the final stop on the Silk Road. The lingering scent of socialism. Mostar is a mixture of them. And I like it. アザーンの響き。東欧の味わい。シルクロードの終着地の雰囲気。そして、社会主義の残り香。この街ではそれが混じり合っている。モスタルは良い。

I've always wanted to come here. Stari Most (Old Bridge) is an indisputable symbol of Mostar, and the name Mostar actually means “bridge keeper". It is said that this limestone bridge built in 1567 during the Ottoman era was the longest single span stone arch on the planet at that time. But in 1993 during the War in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the more than 400-year-old architectural feat was destroyed due to shelling by Croats forces. After the end of the war, its reconstruction was undertaken with the support of UNESCO using Ottoman construction techniques and stones recovered from the wreckage of the original bridge. It was built, wrecked, and built again. Stari Most is forever a reminder of both the wisdom and stupidity of humanity. ずっとここに来たかった。スタリ・モスト、つまりオールドブリッジは、紛れもなくモスタルの象徴。モスタルという街の名前自体が「橋の番人」を意味するらしい。オスマン帝国時代の1567年に完成したライムストーンの石組みによる橋は、当時地球上で最長の石造シングルスパンアーチと言われた。しかしボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ紛争中の1993年、400年以上の歴史を持つこの驚異的な建築物を、クロアチア勢力が砲撃で破壊してしまう。内戦が終わるとユネスコの支援を受けて橋は再建されたが、その際にはオス

Checked into a spacious suite of Hotel Mepas, Mostar's first five star. The hotel doesn't look so attractive from the outside because it is located inside a downtown shopping complex, but the room is quite comfortable. モスタル初のファイブスター、ホテルメパスの広々としたスイートにチェックインした。ダウンタウンにあるショッピングセンターの中に入っているので外見はそれほどセクシーではないが、部屋はとても快適。 And the bathroom is pretty modern. しかも、バスルームがなかなかモダン。

I drove north along the beautiful Adriatic coast... 美しいアドリア海の海岸に沿って北上し・・・ ...and tried to cross the border at a small check point on a narrow mountain path. But the officer told me I needed to use the other check point for some reason. 細い山道に作られた小さな検問所で国境を越えようとしたら、係官が別の検問所へ向かえと言う。通過できない何らかの理由があるらしい。 So I tried again at a larger check point. そこで、大きめの検問所で再度トライ。 Success. I could enter Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is my 65th country visited (including pre-reversion Hong Kong and Macau). 成功。ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナに入国できた。返還前の香港とマカオを入れると、僕にとって65か国目の訪問国。 The landscape is similar to the one in New Mexico, but the design of the church tells I'm somewhere in Eastern Europe. I'm heading for Mostar. 風景はニューメキシコのようだが、ここが東欧のどこかであることを教会の形が語っている。モスタルへ向かう。
