Some people might remember an old Japanese pop song about the Azusa limited express train that departs at 8 o'clock. This morning, I take the 9 o'clock Azusa operated by the E257 series EMU from Shinjuku Station to go to Ina in the southern part of Nagano Prefecture. 8時ちょうどの特急あずさを歌った古い歌謡曲を憶えている人もいるかもしれない。今朝は長野県南部の伊那へ向かうために、新宿駅発9時ちょうどのあずさに乗る。車両はE257系。 Enjoying the views of the Yatsugatake Mountains through train window. On an outbound Azusa, you had better sit on the right side of the train in the direction of travel. 車窓から八ヶ岳連峰を眺める。下りのあずさでは、進行方向に向かって右に座るのがマスト。

Going home from Mishima Station on a Kodama bullet train which seems to have hit a bird or wild animal. Again, Kodama is the best way to access Hakone and Izu area . 三島駅から、鳥か野生動物がぶつかった跡がある新幹線こだまで帰宅。 伊豆箱根へのアクセスは、やはり「こだま」が一番いい 。 A glimpse of Izu Oshima island, as always . いつものように 伊豆大島をチラ見。

Had a coffee at the Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko Hotel, walked along the lakeshore, enjoyed the lights over the water and Mt. Fuji in the distance. I still don't think that the pirate ship is a good fit for Lake Ashi and its surroundings. ザ・プリンス 箱根芦ノ湖ホテルでコーヒーを飲み、湖畔を散歩して、水面に反射する光と遠くにそびえる富士を楽しむ。で、相変わらず海賊船は、芦ノ湖とその周辺の景色に似合わないと思う。

Hakone Brutalist. As if they were from a sci-fi TV show I watched when I was a kid. 箱根ブルータリスト。子どもの頃に見た、SF番組のシーンのよう。

Climbing up the central cone of the Hakone caldera with a touch of the 60/70s. 60/70年代のムードと共に、箱根のカルデラの中央火口丘に登る。 A view from the peak. I could overlook even Suruga Bay. Not bad. 頂上からの眺め。駿河湾も見える。悪くない。

Strolled around the area with some corporate retreat facilities which seem to be almost forgotten... ほとんど忘れ去られたような企業の保養所が集まっているエリアを散歩して・・・ ...and visited a shrine at the foot of a mountain... 山の麓にある神社を訪ねて・・・ ...then came back to Hiramatsu . 「ひらまつ」 に帰ってきた。

Because the hotel is run by Hiramatsu , I felt like I was staying at a restaurant that has a nice guestroom with a hot spring. 「ひらまつ」 がやっているので、温泉付きのなかなか良いゲストルームを持ったレストランに泊まっている感じになる。 Breakfast table. An authentic Japanese menu by Hiramatsu—something you can't have in Hiroo . 朝食のテーブル。 広尾 ではお目にかかれない、「ひらまつ」によるオーセンティックな和のメニュー。

Checked into a Hiramatsu hotel in a quieter area of Hakone. The layout of a private hot spring bath is similar to the one at the Hiramatsu Atami . The hotel has only 11 rooms—even smaller than Atami—and feels peaceful. 箱根の静かなエリアにある、 「ひらまつ」 のホテルにチェックイン。部屋にある温泉バスタブのレイアウトは 熱海のTHE HIRAMATSU に似ている。部屋数は熱海よりもさらに少なく11室のみ。とても落ち着いている。 The Hakone sky melting into the  hot spring water. 温泉の湯に箱根の空が溶けていく。

Taking a short hot spring trip to Hakone on Odakyu's "Romancecar" limited express train Fujisan (Mt. Fuji) operated by the 60000 series MSE. 60000形MSEで運行される小田急の特急ロマンスカー「ふじさん」に乗って、箱根への短い温泉旅行に出かける。 I've got the first-row seats. The interior is not that impressive. 最前列のシートを確保。でもインテリアは大したことがない。 The train named after Mt. Fuji faces Mt. Fuji. From Matsuda Station, the train runs on JR Central's Gotemba Line, leaving the Odakyu Odawara Line. ふじさんという名の列車が富士山と対面。松田駅から先、列車は小田急小田原線を離れて、JR東海の御殿場線を走る。 The Odakyu EMU at a JR station. Arrived at Gotemba. JRの駅に小田急の電車が。御殿場に到着。

This exhibition made me feel like I was traveling in the Eastern bloc. A burnt piano and floating old suitcases were haunting.
