Decades before Apple created its donut in California, the Japanese architectural giant Togo Murano built the original spaceship right next to the Kyoto International Conference Center . It was originally inaugurated as the Kyoto Takaragaike Prince Hotel and is currently branded as The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike, a part of Marriott 's Autograph Collection Hotels. The donut hole is much smaller than the one at Apple Park, but still refreshing. Today I only have a cup of tea here admiring Mr. Murano's masterpiece. Appleがカリフォルニアに自分たちの ドーナツ を建てる何十年も前に、偉大な日本の建築家である村野藤吾氏が、 国立京都国際会館 の真隣りに元祖スペースシップを作っていた。ここは京都宝ヶ池プリンスホテルとしてオープンし、現在はザ・プリンス 京都宝ヶ池という名前で マリオット のオートグラフコレクションに属している。ドーナツの穴はApple Parkと比べるとはるかに小さいが、なかなか清々しい空間だった。今日は村野氏の傑作を鑑賞しながら、お茶だけいただく。

Checking out the Kyoto International Conference Center, one of Japan's Brutalist masterpieces, designed by Sachio Otani and completed in 1966. Its trapezoidal structure is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese house. I could take pictures of the inside from the entrance, but they never allowed me to enter the building. It's a national facility without any confidentiality and an architectural landmark that can attract modernism maniacs from all over the world, so why don't they open this place to the public? 日本におけるブルータリスト建築の傑作の一つ、国立京都国際会館を見に行った。完成は1966年。手がけたのは大谷幸夫。台形の構造体が日本の伝統的な家屋を思い起こさせる。入り口から建物の内側の写真を撮ることができたが、中は立入禁止とのことで入れてもらえなかった。なんの秘密もない国立の施設であり、世界中のモダニズムマニアたちを魅了するランドマーク的建築なのだから、誰もがいつでも入れるようにするべき。

Checked into the newer version of the Okura in Kyoto. I felt they squeezed the building into a small lot facing a wide street. It's a classy hotel, but unfortunately, the overall experience they deliver, including the quality of the room, can't compete with those of the hotels in Kyoto by the top global players, such as Park Hyatt , Four Seasons , The Ritz-Carlton ,  Suiran , and The Mitsui . A bit disappointing as a long-time fan of the Okura brand. 京都にあるオークラの新しいほうにチェックイン。ここは広い通りに面した狭い土地に、建物を無理やり詰め込んだ感じがするホテルだった。品は良いものの、部屋の質感を含む全体的なエクスペリエンスが、トップグローバルプレイヤーたちが京都で展開する パークハイアット 、 フォーシーズンズ 、 リッツ・カールトン 、 翠嵐 、 The Mitsui といったホテルにかなわない。長年の オークラ ファンとしてちょっと残念。

Returning to Natita sitting in another forward-facing seat on another Etihad 787-9 , enjoying another Arabic mezze. Abu Dhabi International's new passenger terminal , originally scheduled for completion in 2017, and then pushed to 2019, is not yet open. As a result, many flights still use the bus gate even late at night. The boarding process was not ideal, but once on board, I was in an ideal cabin. Etihad B787-9 AUH-NRT. The 795th flight in my lifetime. また別の エティハドの787-9 に載せられた、また別の前向きシートに座って、また別のアラビックメゼを楽しみながら成田に戻る。もともとは2017年に完成するはずだったものの、その後2019年に延期された アブダビ国際空港の新ターミナル は今もまだ出来上がっていない。そのため、数多くのフライトが夜遅くでも相変わらずバスゲートを使っている。ボーディングプロセスは決して理想的ではないが、一度搭乗してしまえば、そこは理想的なキャビン。エティハド B787-9 AUH-NRT。生涯795フライト目。

Landed at Abu Dhabi International after midnight... 真夜中過ぎに アブダビ国際空港 にランディングしたら・・・ ...and immediately checked into the airport hotel called Premier Inn, sitting in front of Terminal 3 . One of the best things about this hotel is that they have a Costa Coffee shop opening 23H45M a day right next to the front desk. I think the 15-minute break is for cleaning and restocking. ただちに ターミナル3 の前にあるエアポートホテル、プレミアインにチェックイン。このホテルの良さの一つは、フロントデスクの真横に23時間45分営業のコスタコーヒーがあること。15分のブレイクは清掃と商品補充のためだと思う。 Woke up and opened the curtain, then saw the glaring Arabian sun. 目覚めてカーテンを開けると、ギラギラ輝くアラブの太陽が。

Flying to Abu Dhabi on an Etihad 787-9. Of course, the seat is not as amazing as the Apartment , but still good enough. エティハドの787-9でアブダビへ向かう。もちろん アパートメント とは比べ物にならないが、このシートもなかなか良い。 My late lunch starts over Southern Germany with Arabic mezze —my usual choice on the Middle Eastern airline. And I selected the biryani as the entrée. Their biryani is one of the best inflight meals I've ever had. Etihad B787-9 LHR-AUH. Today I'm flying to Abu Dhabi on an Etihad flight from Heathrow T4, home to many of the Middle Eastern airlines and SkyTeam members. At T4, Etihad has its own cozy lounge with a spacious dining area, similar to the one at Abu Dhabi International . I know I'm about to eat a lot on the plane, but I can't resist trying what they offer here. 今日はヒースローのT4からエティハドでアブダビに飛ぶ。様々な中東系エアラインとスカイチームメンバーの多くが使うここT4に、エティハドは居心地の良い専用ラウンジを持っている。 アブダビ国際空港にあるもの と似た感じの広々としたダイニングエリアがついていたので、せっかくだからミールを試してみた。じきに機上でもたっぷり食べるつもりなのだが。

Wrapped up my London visit with dinner at The Clove Club located inside the 1866-built Shoreditch Town Hall. Together with my special people, I enjoyed the fabulous modern British cuisine that has a Japanese influence. 1866年に建てられたショーディッチタウンホールの中にあるレストラン、The Clove Clubでディナー。特別な人たちと一緒に、和のインフルエンスを感じる極上のモダンブリティッシュを楽しんだ。今回のロンドン訪問は、これにてお開き。
