I checked out the opening reception of "Ishinomaki Laboratory 692-", the exhibition and product presentation of Ishinomaki Laboratory held at Living Design Center Ozone in Shinjuku, Tokyo. "692" means number of days since the 311 earthquake and tsunami. The products of Ishinomaki Laboratory, the community craft center born in tsunami-affected Ishinomaki City, is now gaining great popularity throughout the nation and becoming one of the most innovative example of local industry of Japan. Why are they making a great leap forward? Their sophisticated modern design is not the only reason. I guess one-and-only story behind the brand and their concrete vision for the future of community also fascinate people.
