The hotel's 1940s modern facade looks almost like the socialist architecture and stands out in the decorative San Marco neighborhood—especially in the evening when the tourists on the streets and in the campo disappear. In the early 20th century,
the hotel was called Hotel Bauer-Grünwald. Grünwald is the family name of one of the hotel founders, who is an Austrian. And the room key has "VENISE" instead of "VENICE." It's not a typo. It's pan-European.
