Had breakfast at the Café Americain in the American Hotel, the landmark of Leidseplein. This Jugendstil gem was built in 1902 by Dutch architects. The hotel was part of Hard Rock Hotels with the official name Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam American until quite recently, but now it is under an Irish hotel operator, and is called Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American. Interesting to see that the hotel and cafe names are spelled slightly different. I guess the cafe may have preferred some French flair.
ライツェプレインのランドマーク、アメリカンホテル（American Hotel）の中にあるカフェアメリカン（Café Americain）で朝食。このユーゲントスティルスタイルの名作は、1902年にオランダ人建築家たちによって建てられた。ごく最近までここはハードロックホテルズに属していて、正式な名称はハードロックホテル アムステルダム アメリカンだったのだが、現在はアイルランド系ホテルオペレーターの傘下となり、クレイトンホテル アムステルダム アメリカンと呼ばれている。ホテルの名前のスペリングとカフェの名前のスペリングが微妙に違っていて面白い。カフェの方はちょっとだけフランスっぽくしたかったのだろうか。
