THE KAHALA HOTEL & RESORT YOKOHAMA: CHECK-IN

Oafu's Kahala Hilton established in the 60s had been rebranded to the Mandarin Oriental in the 90s. It later changed the name to the Kahala Hotel & Resort and joined Okura Hotels & Resorts. In 2014, the hotel was acquired by Resorttrust—a Japanese membership-based hotel operator headquartered in Nagoya. Then the new owner surprisingly brought the Kahala brand outside of Hawaii and opened the first non-Hawaii Kahala hotel in Yokohama—a seaport city in Tokyo suburb—in September 2020. The neighborhood of Kahala in Honolulu and Yokohama have nothing in common except one thing: they both are facing the Pacific. So I was intrigued and checked in.

Hotel's GM brought a gift to our room: chocolate covered macadamia nuts. This has a Hawaiian feel for sure.
