The E&O in George Town, Penang, has been on my classic hotel bucket list for a while. This hotel was opened in 1885 by the Sarkies Brothers, who also founded the
Raffles Hotel in Singapore and the
Strand Hotel in Yangon. The property consists of two different buildings - the Heritage Wing and the newer Victory Annexe - and of course I got a room in the older one. The suite they gave me has similar decor to those in the Raffles and the Strand, and a small terrace overlooking the Straits of Malacca.
僕の「泊まってみたいクラシックホテルリスト」に長いあいだ載っていた一軒にようやく滞在することができる。ペナンのジョージタウンにあるここE&Oは、シンガポールの
ラッフルズやヤンゴンの
ザ・ストランドも作ったサーキース兄弟が1885年に創業したホテル。ヘリテージウイングと新しめのヴィクトリーアネックスという2つの建物があるのだが、もちろん古いほうを選んだ。もらったスイートはラッフルズやザ・ストランドに似た雰囲気があり、マラッカ海峡を見晴らす小さなテラスがついている。
